Our Practices

Farming with Future Generations in Mind

At Westwood Farms, we’re cultivating a future where vision and responsibility go hand in hand. We care for our fields with a blend of modern innovations and time-honored methods, being intentional with each and every choice we make.

We do our best to honor the tens of thousands of years of history that have shaped this land by preserving and protecting it. To do so, we focus on sustainable farming with a holistic mindset. Our land is a complex ecosystem, from the soil and the crops to the lake and the wild animals, even our farmers and facilities.

Our practices center regenerative farming. We rely on cover crops, which are grown to benefit the soil rather than produce a harvest, to curb weed growth. We reduce tilling as much as possible. These methods nurture the soil and reduce erosion.

Conservation is also a top priority. We treat water like the precious resource it is, using specialized sensors in our fields. These power our micro-irrigation systems, which ensure precise, highly-efficient water usage.

We focus on conserving the wildlife around us too. One of our primary goals is safeguarding some of Oregon’s most threatened habitats: the wetlands and white oak savannas.

Our Partnerships

Caring for nature is a joint effort between us all, so we aren’t doing this alone. We’ve collaborated with University of Oregon and Oregon State University on sustainability efforts. We’re also certified Salmon-Safe and participants in the Green Chief® program, ensuring we’re protecting the quality of our local watersheds and the land around us.
